Modelled predominantly in Sketchup Pro and rendered in Unreal Engine 4.
The Main Shuttlebay of the Enterprise-D was only very briefly shown on Star Trek The Next Generation in the episode 'Cause and Effect' and only a very small portion of the bay was shown, created as a miniature model by the production team.
In Stage 9, we wanted to bring the entire bay to life as an explorable and interactive area.
Based on 2D design schematics created by Rick Sternbach, this huge Shuttlebay, spanning 2 decks and taking up a significant floorspan of both decks was released as part of an iterative update to Stage 9.
My involvement consisted of creating the 3D Models required for the structure of the bay, utilising a modular design workflow.
I was also responsible for setting up this area in Unreal Engine 4 itself, involving level design and lighting/ambience and developing the interactive elements such as opening the Shuttlebay exterior doors from the Control Center.
Several elements in the screenshots in this album contain work from other members of the Stage 9 team. Including :-
- Ships Bell and Levitating Cargo Trolley created by Jack Nelson
- The Runabout created by Chris
- Type 6 Shuttle created by CalmAsACow
- Type 7 and Type 15 shuttles and additional decorative elements created by Tadeo D'oria
